DUTIES OF A CPM LIAISON
The committee believes that its liaison,
along with the candidate's Session, is important in establishing a Christian
relationship of care with those seeking ordination in the Presbyterian
Church, USA. Therefore, we ask our liaisons to assume the following responsibilities
with our Inquirers/Candidates.
-
Pray for the Inquirer/Candidate on a regular
basis.
-
Contact the Inquirer/Candidate at least quarterly,
by letter, phone, or email. Ask how they are doing on a personal and spiritual
level as well as in their course work and requirements) and relationship
with their Session.
-
Follow the guidlines for CPM liaisons during
annual consultations (see below).
-
If the Inquirer/Candidate has a question that
the liaison cannot answer, the liaison should assume the responsibility
for finding out the answer, and getting back to the Candidate
-
Alert the inquirer/Candidate about contacting
the chair of the committee for exam registrations, as well as our Presbytery's
requirements of candidates for CPE and career counseling.
-
Work with Candidate on their verbal expression
of their faith journey as they move from Inquiry phase to Candidacy and
on the Statements of Faith as they move from Candidate to being Certified
Ready to Receive a Call.
-
Participate with Candidate in biannual Committee
on Preparation for Ministry retreat, if scheduled.
Annual Consultation
Guidelines for CPM Liaisons
-
During the Annual Consultation, the advisor
(CPM Liaison) should pay special attention for weak areas/areas for growth.
-
1-2 weeks after the Annual Consultation, the
advisor (CPM Liaison) will contact the student to agree on growth objectives
in each of the five areas listed on Form 4:
Education for Ministry
Spiritual Development
Interpersonal Relationships
Personal Growth
Professional Development
These growth objectives should be based on
the issues/concerns raised during the Annual Consultation. These growth
objectives will form the basis for the student's next annual consultation.
-
The advisor (CPM Liaison) will present to
the Committee at its next meeting the Form 4, recording “strengths identified"
during the consultation and the growth objectives. (The Committee may ask
the advisor to revise Form 4.) After the Committee approves it, the advisor
(CPM Liaison) will sign the Form 4, and then mail it to the student. The
student will then sign the Form 4 and mail it to the CPM chairperson.
-
The advisor (CPM Liaison) should make at least
two contacts with the inquirer before the next annual consultation. Recommendations:
a. 4-5 months after the annual consultation.
b. 2 months before the next annual consultation
(to help the student prepare for the next annual consultation and Form
3).
-
The entire process (steps 1-5) is repeated
after every Annual Consultation in preparation for the following year's
annual consultation.
